About The Fort Worth Metroplex Chapter

EWGA Fort Worth/Metroplex Chapter has approximately 70 members who live and work in Fort Worth, Arlington, Mid-Cities, and surrounding communities. Our all-volunteer board works hard to ensure we are providing our members with a great golfing experience through the leagues, events, and education opportunities offered. Whether you're a new golfer looking for a welcoming environment to properly learn the game, or an experienced golfer seeking the challenge of competition, we offer events and activities to meet your needs.

Our Chapter organizes a variety of events, clinics, and socials each year, where the focus is always on fun. Activities include new golfer clinics, league play, monthly golf events, chapter championship, networking functions, member-guest events, charity tournaments and, of course, the infamous Lone Star Cup!

With almost half of our members in key management positions, you'll also find an ideal environment for networking with other businesswomen in a friendly atmosphere.

Whether you're looking for an occasional round of informal golf, or a chance to play regularly with other avid golfers, the Executive Women's Golf Association provides those opportunities. We invite you to join us to have fun, network and help support us as we bring a new level of dignity and respect to women's golf.

Out and About

The 10th annual Lone Star Cup was held at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose, Texas, November 2nd - 5th, 2011. Glen Rose, Texas, rolled out the red carpet for Lone Star Cup X, and the tournament was a rousing success.

For those who don't know, Lone Star Cup is a two-day match play tournament between all our section's chapters of EWGA.  This year there were teams from Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and a hybrid team that was part Central Arkansas and part at-large.  Houston won the cup for a third straight year, and our Fort Worth team came in a strong second - - again, for the third straight year!  It was a great time, and after a 1 1/2 hour frost delay on Friday, the weather couldn't have been better.  The courses at Squaw Valley were in fantastic condition, and the Holiday Inn Express rolled out the red carpet for us.

This year's team members were:

Julie Piland (captain)
Marjorie Stanfield (captain)
Johanna Jones
Paweena Bennett
Laura Yeager
Jeanne Green
Janet Case
Cindy Simmons
Marilyn Weiss
Cindy Kline
Cindy Campbell
Jan Marsell
Bonnie Hair (alternate - played for Central Arkansas)
Shawna Ledsome (alternate)

We also had members who played on other teams as well as Fun Play:
Joni Bonner (and husband, Craig)
Mary Ann Beldeszek
Ann Putnam
Pam Mason
Donna Watson

Missing from our team photograph are: Pam Mason, Jan Marsell and Janet Case.

Watch for details early next year regarding Lone Star Cup XI.  If you've never been, you're missing out on a lot of fun!

President's Letter

by Laura Yeager - 2011 Chapter President

After a long hot summer, we are so excited for fall and cooler weather.  We have so much to offer our members over the next couple of months from socials to events to leagues.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the “Meet the Board” on Saturday.

Please accept my personal invitation to come, have dinner and meet everyone. It will be a great way to get connected with our chapter leaders. We have a wonderful group dedicated to growing our chapter and increasing golf opportunities here in Fort Worth.

VOLUNTEERS / LEADERSHIP

Volunteers are important to the success of the Fort Worth/Metroplex EWGA.

"Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one's ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them"...Harriet Naylor

Feeling inspired? Want to get involved, but don't know where to start? Joining a committee or volunteering for an event is a great way to meet members. We're all busy women, but it is very satisfying, and just plain fun, to work with and get to know other women who enjoy this challenging game as much as we do.

Email Paweena Bennett to learn more about how you can get involved and make things happen.

HANDICAPS

The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

Having a handicap index allows golfers to participate in more events (those that require a handicap index), have a measurable means of tracking improvement, and allows score adjustments to even the playing field when playing with golfers of different skill levels.

League Play

Leagues are a great way to make friends, improve your game and destress from a hard day at work. The Fort Worth Chapter EWGA Leagues will begin the week of March 11, 2012.

Education

Practice the way you want to play, if you're serious about playing well.

Use your time well and you will enjoy the game much more. Determine what kind of pre-shot routine fits you best and do it while practicing. Work on your mechanics and technique on the range so you don't have to think about it on the course.
